Apple Updates Pro Video Applications

With NAB 2015 attacking our production senses from all directions, it would’ve been easy to miss the news that Apple rolled out updates to their professional video applications, including Final Cut Pro X, Motion and Compressor. The update includes improvements to support new cameras and hardware, and adds 3D animation resources and new effect features. Apple is hoping these kinds of updates will help them take on the heavyweight NLE and motion graphic offerings on the market, as well as give filmmakers better tools to keep them considering a Final Cut workflow.

Final Cut Pro 10.2 includes drag and drop 3D title creation tools, and bundles of templates to make title creation easier. The templates include their own background and animations, and 3D titles have tons of editable parameters, such as material, lighting, edges and more, with changes rendering in real-time.

Additionally, FCPX 10.2 includes support for up to four video scope views at the same time, support for new video formats, and better RED RAW support. Thanks to added GPU acceleration, those RED RAW files will enjoy quicker transcoding, rendering and playback.

In the motion graphic department, Motion 5.2 adds similar improvements for 3D title building, as well as 12 new generator effects. Compressor 4.2 improves how easy it is to get a movie out and up for sale on iTunes, letting you build an iTunes Store Package which can be submitted directly to an iTunes Delivery partner.

The app updates are available now from the App Store on the Mac, as either free updates for existing users or as part of the standard priced packages for new buyers.
