The Twitter-based livestreaming space has certainly caught fire of late, with platforms Periscope and Meerkat jostling for position. Well, the jostle ended with Periscope being acquired by Twitter in January before it even launched officially. While the battle is far from over, more information on the war should come to light at this May’s TechCrunch Disrupt show in New York.
Per TechCrunch: “We’re incredibly pleased to announce that Periscope cofounder Kayvon Beykpour will join us for the upcoming conference at the historic Manhattan Center in New York City, where we’ll discuss all things Periscope, Twitter, and of course, live broadcasting as a whole.”
Last month Meerkat launched at SXSW and grabbed massive initial traction, despite Twitter shutting down some of their social graph access. Soon after, Twitter launched Periscope.
Our feeling here at ProductionWorld.net is that the battle for Twitter livestreaming will be nearly as interesting as the grapple for consumer traction in the space over the long haul. Livestreaming is popular, but will Periscoping be a thing a year from now?
Stay tuned to find out.
